Gabriela Maria Conceição
Inspired by The Best...
Maria Conceição-Paiva (Fatima)
Gabriela's mother and creative inspiration, Maria, was born in the highly cultured and historic city of Olinda, Brazil. She has nearly two decades of experience as an artist beginning in 1998 with an enormous portfolio of work. She grew up surrounded by artists, craft persons, and musicians. Maria's mother was one of her strongest creative influences. As an accomplished painter, her mother used the brilliant colors of Brazil's tropical landscapes as a decorative motif throughout her home. Maria watched with great interest as she helped create beautiful gowns, curtains, pillows, table settings, and party decorations all by hand. Maria's father, besides being a lawyer, was also a popular opera singer in Brazil. One of her older brothers became an architect, and played the keyboard with a Brazilian jazz band.
In the beginning, Maria was accepted to, and completed her degree in Display and Exhibit Design at the prestigious college F.I.T (Fashion Institute of Technology) in Manhattan, and she graduated with Honors. Her versatility, creativity, and passionate commitment to her craft has amazed both her professors as well as her clients to this day. She developed a large client base and an even larger portfolio becoming a renowned freelance muralist and decorative artist in Long Island, New York. Then she moved to Florida in 2005 and started once again building her name. Her goal is to not only transform spaces but to transform people's lives by sharing the joys of the creative process.
Maria loves to share her joy by teaching her unique approach to art as well. You can find her today in South Florida teaching fun and fantastic art classes with Susi in the wildly popular studio Art n' Around. The duo both share their love of art and have even started working on murals as a team, bringing their talent together to build an empire of fun art in classrooms, and fine art in homes and businesses. She also dedicates her summers as the artist-in-residence at Coleman Country Day Camp in Long Island, New York. It was at this place where she built her confidence as a painter and refined her skills every summer since 98'. Some of her premiere work floats among the many walls in that huge children's camp (some even 20-40 feet high, can you say cherry picker?), and everyone there loves Maria for her beautiful work. For this woman, art is her love, her life, and her legacy.
